A public feud between Afrobeats stars Davido and Wande Coal escalated this week over an unreleased collaboration, with fans accusing Davido of revenge porn after he reposted alleged nude photographs linked to an old controversy involving Wande Coal. The dispute centred on Wande Coal’s 2021 hit, Come My Way, for which Davido had recorded a verse that was never officially released. Davido said he disagreed with plans to release the original song before using his contribution for a remix, while Wande Coal disputed his account and accused him of trying to dictate the song’s release strategy. The exchange later became personal, with Davido referencing the 2010 controversy over alleged nude photographs of Wande Coal. Wande Coal responded with an insult referencing an old viral video involving Davido. The controversy intensified after Davido reposted the alleged photographs, prompting some social media users to accuse him of revenge porn and call for accountability. A Nigerian legal expert, Oluwatodimu Ige, popularly known as Oga_thelawyer, said the repost could potentially have legal consequences under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes Act, particularly if it was intended to embarrass, harass, intimidate or cause distress. However, he cautioned that not every repost of an intimate photograph automatically amounted to revenge porn under Nigerian law, noting that prosecutors would still have to prove the elements of a specific offence. He also explained that the fact that an image had previously been available online did not automatically mean the person had consented to its subsequent redistribution, especially in a different context.

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was recently captured in a playful exchange with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The exchange took place on Thursday when Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke visited Wike in Abuja following his re-election in the August 15 governorship election. In a viral video, Davido repeatedly told Wike, “I won, I beat you guys,” while the minister smiled and disputed the claim. Wike responded, “No, no,” before asking, “You beat us?” Davido insisted that he had won. The light-hearted banter ended with the singer prostrating before Wike before hugging him, drawing laughter and applause from those present. The exchange was widely linked online to the recent Osun governorship election, in which Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, won re-election on the platform of the Accord Party. Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Davido had actively campaigned for his uncle before the election and had criticised the Federal Government over concerns about the use of federal influence in the poll. However, Wike later said Adeleke won because President Bola Tinubu allowed the election to be free and fair.
