The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has warned motorists and members of the public about fake text messages claiming that recipients have committed new road traffic offences.

The messages, being circulated through mobile phones and social media, direct people to a fraudulent website designed to look like the official FRSC platform.

The Corps says the website is fake and has no connection with the agency.

FRSC advised motorists to verify any alleged traffic offence through its official channels instead of clicking links sent in unsolicited messages.

The agency warned that the scam could be used to steal personal and financial information, including bank details, passwords, card information, driver’s licence and vehicle registration details.

Members of the public who receive the messages have been advised not to click the links or communicate further with the senders, but to preserve the evidence and report the scam.

The FRSC reminded motorists that its official toll-free number is 122 and urged Nigerians to stop, verify and report before responding to messages claiming to be from the agency.
