Allied health professionals at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, have commenced an indefinite strike over a disciplinary case involving the hospital’s Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Adeyinka Ishola.

The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals says the strike began on Wednesday, September 16, after several attempts to resolve the dispute through dialogue failed.

The union is demanding the implementation of a Federal Ministry of Health recommendation that Ishola be reprimanded and reinstated.

The dispute follows allegations that Ishola sold a tricycle donated to the hospital’s Pharmacy Department without management’s approval.

According to the union, a ministry investigation found Ishola not guilty of fraud but responsible for failing to properly involve hospital management in the sale.

The union says the proceeds of about 1.3 million naira were used for departmental needs and were fully accounted for.

However, the hospital management reportedly maintains that the ministry’s decision is not final and has not reinstated Ishola.

The union says the strike will continue indefinitely until its demands are met, raising concerns about possible disruption to healthcare services at the major tertiary hospital.
