The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa, NICASA, has called for justice following the killing of 58-year-old Nigerian Bishop Taiwo Michael Fakunle in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Fakunle was reportedly shot dead at his residence in Kensington, Johannesburg, on Friday.

NICASA President, Reverend Frank Onyekwelu, said Nigerians in South Africa were shocked and saddened by the incident.

According to him, preliminary information indicated that two suspects entered the bishop’s residence before opening fire, reportedly shooting him more than seven times.

Fakunle, who hailed from Iye in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, was described as a victim whose death has caused deep pain within the Nigerian community in South Africa.

NICASA has called on the South African Police Service and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

The association said the Nigerian Consulate General in Johannesburg had been informed, while a murder case has been opened at Jeppe Police Station.

NICASA also urged Nigerians and community leaders in South Africa to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that the pursuit of justice must be through legitimate channels.
