Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was recently captured in a playful exchange with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The exchange took place on Thursday when Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke visited Wike in Abuja following his re-election in the August 15 governorship election.
In a viral video, Davido repeatedly told Wike, “I won, I beat you guys,” while the minister smiled and disputed the claim.
Wike responded, “No, no,” before asking, “You beat us?” Davido insisted that he had won. The light-hearted banter ended with the singer prostrating before Wike before hugging him, drawing laughter and applause from those present.
The exchange was widely linked online to the recent Osun governorship election, in which Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, won re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Davido had actively campaigned for his uncle before the election and had criticised the Federal Government over concerns about the use of federal influence in the poll.
However, Wike later said Adeleke won because President Bola Tinubu allowed the election to be free and fair.
